Selecting a vape flavour is easy, or so it seems, but for many new starters, it’s more challenging than it should be. There is just so much to choose from — ranging from sweet desserts and fruit flavours to mint, menthol and tobacco flavours — that you could be left not having a clue where to begin. What may be suitable for another person will not necessarily be good enough for you, so it’s worth considering what you like and how often you intend to vape.
Begin With What You Know
If you are converting from cigarettes, tobacco or menthol flavors will seem most comfortable initially. They will not be the same as smoking, but close enough to allow you to get around the habit without doing too much transition at once. Menthol particularly can feel biting and fresh, which some people find helpful in taking care of cravings.
If you never enjoyed the flavor of tobacco, then you may as well avoid it and move directly to something lighter. Fruit flavors are popular choices here — such as strawberry, mango, mixed berries or watermelon. They tend to be smooth and a little bit sweet, so they’re easy to vape all day without getting overwhelming.
Consider How You Vape
Not every flavour works well in every type of vape. Smaller pod kits and mouth-to-lung devices are better for light, balanced flavours. Bigger kits with more power can produce more vapour and stronger flavour, but they can also exaggerate sweeteners or make heavy flavours feel sickly if you’re vaping often.
Dessert-type liquids, such as custard, vanilla, caramel or biscuit, are warm and rich, and suit individuals who seek something comforting or guilty. These would be more suited to low or medium wattage configurations, as greater power can make them too thick. Be aware they may burn out your coil more rapidly, particularly if they have a lot of sweetener.
The intensity of the flavour does count. If you only vape occasionally, you may like something stronger and more obvious. But if you’re vaping throughout the day, a less intense liquid may be less harsh in the long run. Some vapers maintain several different bottles and switch out depending on their mood or the hour.
Test a Few Options Before Settling
When testing a new flavour, it’s often better to start with a small bottle. That way, you won’t be left with something you don’t enjoy. If you happen to have access to a vape store with tester bars or samples, those will give you a better sense of what appeals to your taste.
The level of nicotine can also influence the way a flavour presents. Stronger strengths, particularly with nicotine salts, can dampen the flavour a bit in certain configurations. You may find that a flavour is perfect at 6mg but tastes entirely different at 18mg. It’s a little bit trial and error, but it doesn’t take you long to work out what you need.
Everyone Has Different Taste
It’s okay not to enjoy the first flavor you try. People usually work their way through a couple of them before they find one or two that they keep returning to. When you have something that feels right — whether it’s fruity, fresh, sweet, or basic — vaping is much more enjoyable.
Your tastes may also evolve over time. A flavour you adored six months before may not do it for you now. That’s okay — just give something new a go. There’s a lot to pick from, and once you’ve figured out what fits your style, it becomes a lot easier to find one that you like to use daily.
